Commissioner Roth,
I think your blog is an excellent idea. It provides citizens in your precinct a way to comment, complain or to ask questions. Email is an excellent method of communication, but there are times when publically airing an issue is a good thing. It often encourages others with the same concern to speak up. Are you the only Commissioner who has taken the initiative to create a blog for their citizens? Just want you to know I appreciate having a place to comment publically on issues in my precinct and across the county.

Did you really tell the sheriff, “I don’t expect you to (come take care of criminals) in my house, “I expect you to come write the report.”? If you did say this, I believe that is one of the most reckless comments I have ever heard regarding law enforcement. I don’t know what kind of world you live in, but violent crime actually occurs in the world we live in today. And if a violent crime is occurring to me or one of my family members, I would want law enforcement in Parker County availble to respond immediately. I don’t want them to come hours afterward to “write the report.” If you in fact made this statement, I believe that you need to clarify your meaning. Please let me know if these are really your thoughts regarding law enforcement. I think your constituents have the right to know. Thank you.

First, don’t believe everything you read in the paper. Many times they take comments out of context and add editorial views to “news” articles. When the Sheriff only has 5-6 deputies at any given time roaming 900 square miles, I can’t expect them to respond when my home alarm sounds and catch those breaking in. If they happen to be in the area…that’s great, but I really don’t think that people who live in the county expect the same response time as those in the city. Because of the logistics in responding to such a huge territory, the likelyhood of a deputy writing a crime report is far greater than apprehending the culprit. It’s all a matter of tax dollars and how much you are willing to pay for increased services.
